Massage vs Massage Therapy vs Marcos Julius
Massage, remedial massage, massage therapy, Thai massage, deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, relaxation massage. So many terms, it’s no wonder people can be confused as to what they want or need, when it comes to a massage!
Massage therapy is manual manipulation (rubbing and kneading) of deep and shallow soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance a person’s health and well-being. There are dozens of types of massage therapy methods (also called modalities). People seek massage therapy for a variety of reasons – to reduce stress and anxiety, relax muscles, relieve tension, rehabilitate injuries, reduce pain, and promote overall health and wellness.
While there are several types of massage, two fundamental categories are: 1. Rehabilitative massage – also known as deep tissue, medical, therapeutic or clinical massage; practiced in many settings like clinics, hospitals and chiropractic offices. 2. Relaxation massage -also known as Swedish massage; practiced in settings like spas, wellness centers and resorts.
Remedial massage is the systematic assessment and treatment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues of the body to assist in rehabilitation, pain and injury management. It is designed to balance muscle/soft tissue length, tension, and tone which will in turn promote the return to normal joint/capsular/bone position; increase the flow of blood and lymph, particularly in the injured areas, thus removing blockages, damaged cells, scar tissue and adhesions resulting from injury.
